Two IB Members Named Leaders of Large Multi-District Litigation

Two IB members were recently elected to leadership roles in the federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL) involving Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II Hip Implant products and their relationship with personal injuries caused by the manufacturer’s recalled replacement implants.

On Nov. 5, 2013, Judge Donovan W. Frank, presiding over the Stryker Hip Implant Litigation MDL in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, issued an order appointing more than two dozen attorneys to serve in the leadership roles, which included two IB members.

Georgia-based IB member Richard Schlueter of Childers, Schlueter & Smith was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. He will be responsible for helping conduct all plaintiffs’ pretrial activities and in planning for and conducting trial of these cases, and the potential resolution of these matters. Schlueter also represents the only Georgia-based law firm on the leadership panel.

Fla.-based IB member Ben Gordon of Levin Papantonio, P.A. was appointed to a role in the Plaintiffs’ Lead Counsel Committee. His responsibilities will include pretrial preparations, presenting to the court on all matters pretrial proceedings, representing plaintiffs during settlement negotiations, monitor the activities of the co-counsel and more.

These leadership roles will put IB members Schlueter and Gordon in the position to make strategic decisions that will impact the litigation.
