Texas Member Firm Joins HBAA to Help Hungry Families Over the Holidays

For the past fifteen years, IB firm Hendler Law has worked to help hungry families for the holidays, and this year is no different.

The firm and firm members will join the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin (HBAA) in conjunction with the South Austin Neighborhood Center (the center) to help sponsor and participate in its annual Thanksgiving Basket Project.

Each year, HBAA purchases turkeys for the event and Hendler Law and members of HBAA help defray some of the expenses of the goods, which helps provide 60 families with turkeys and canned and fresh food for their Thanksgiving meal.

“It has been one of HBAA’s most rewarding projects and I have had the privilege of coordinating these efforts for over 20 years (even pre-dating our work with the Center),” says Lulu Flores, firm partner and Chair HBAA Thanksgiving Basket Project.

On Mon., Nov. 25 and Tues., Nov. 26, prior to Thanksgiving, volunteers from HBAA, the UT Chicano/Hispanic Law Student Association and the center will work to prepare the boxes of canned, dry and fresh goods and to hand out the boxes and frozen turkeys to the families.

“In a year where more and more families are struggling to feed their families, I am proud that the members of HBAA and UT CHLSA are joining forces with the South Austin Neighborhood Center to provide families with turkeys and food staples for their Thanksgiving meals. It is gratifying to have so many individuals give up their time to put together the food baskets and hand them out to these deserving families,” says Flores.

To reach more families, HBAA is asking others to donate $25, $50 or $100, which will help with purchasing canned goods, rolls, stuffing mix and desserts. Also, Hendler Law will match donations up to $1,000 for this year’s event.
