‘Blanketing’ the East Coast with Love After Hurricane Sandy

Ella and the staff of Greaney Law Firm Make Blankets at the firm's office.

Washington IB member The Greaney Law Firm has joined up with an 8-year-old who’s on a mission to bring much-needed help to those whose homes were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Ella, a local third-grader, has founded the project, “Ella Blankets the East Coast with Love,” a grassroots project dedicated to making and/or donating fleece blankets to families affected by the superstorm.

Most recently, Ella visited The Greaney Law Firm and was gifted with more than $300 in donations for her cause. She also taught several attorneys and staff how to make a blanket similar to the ones that will be distributed.

To assist in shipping her blankets, Ella has also teamed up with World Vision, a leading charity in the disaster response field. Ella’s Blankets will be sent to World Vision and then distributed to families along the East Coast.

Ella’s goal is to reach 100+ blankets by Dec. 13 to ensure that the blankets will get to the East Coast for the holidays.
